In Turkey real estate is a booming market. It's no wonder. The country has some of the most spectacular scenery you will ever find anywhere. The land is steeped in a rich history that goes back to the dawn of time, and the climate is as near perfect as it can be.
When you mix all that in with a local population who are friendly and interested in foreign visitors, extending a warm welcome to anyone who shows a fascination with their land, then you can easily see why in Turkey, real estate is selling faster than glasses of iced water in a desert.
There is one part of Turkey that many consider to be more exciting, more vibrant, more friendly, more everything than any other part of Turkey – Altinkum. This sleepy little fishing port on the western coast, facing the dazzling cerulean beauty of the Aegean Sea, is a firm favourite with local Turkish people and foreign visitors alike.
Altinkum has three beaches, each one a true gem in its own right. They all have the same golden sand, which is where the name, Altinkum, comes from; it means "Golden Sand." City people have been building holiday homes here for several decades. They too recognised they special value of the area.
Today there are apartment blocks, villas and penthouses going up as fast as the builders can manage. There seems no end to the demand for holiday homes and retirement homes in this incredible place. And it's now wonder that foreign visitors are grabbing homes as fast as they can when you see the prices on offer.
You can buy an apartment in Altinkum for a low five-figure amount. Prices start around £25,000. What do you get for that? Probably only one bedroom, but a bathroom, kitchen and living room with a terrace or balcony can be expected. Air conditioning at least in the bedrooms, mosquito netting on all windows, tiled floors throughout, and a shared pool facility is also the minimum expectation.
What if you had the typical price of a UK house to spend? What might you reasonably expect to get for your money in Altinkum then? The short answer is, a lot! Expect to get a detached villa in its own sizeable grounds, perhaps five or six bedrooms, air conditioning throughout the entire property, a view to die for, probably from a large terrace or generous balcony – in short, you could get four or five times the value that you might expect in Britain.
You also need to take the climate into consideration. The World Health Council have declared the Turkish climate, and the region of Altinkum in particular, to be ideal for those suffering from conditions where a damp, humid climate will aggravate the condition. This includes conditions like asthma and arthritis.
In Turkey, real estate is everywhere. Altinkum is just one small part of it, albeit a very good part. Most people prefer the coastal areas, but there are probably even better bargains to be found inland. Consider also that Turkey is likely to be joining the European Union before long. This will bring many benefits to those wishing to live there who are already citizens of an EU country. Turkey? Real estate? It's a no-brainer.
